In 1905 a young Pearl Woodard left Uvalde, Texas in a covered wagon with her family. The Scottish family left Scotland moving first to Tennessee in late 1780 then to Uvalde, Texas in 1863. Pearl and her family traveled by wagon train to downtown Los Angeles arriving in 1906. In 1919 she married Raymond V. Blanchard, they had 2 sons; several years later my journey began in Los Angeles. Dana was born in Los Angeles with Texas roots. Pearl was a great cook; making me her favorites Cinnamon Apple Pie, Pecan Pie, Peruvian Beans, Smoked Brisket, Smoked Chicken halves and Tamale Pie. During the American Depression she raised chickens to sell eggs and sold pies to make ends meet with her family. Cooking was a joy for Pearl.
Eating at my grandparents’ was always a treat for me. I feel you’ll discover the same treat at Pearl’s BBQ. Y’all welcome!
